Tyree "Tai_TheUniversalStylist" Williams-Kelly
On February 15, 1985, Tyree Williams-Kelly was born to Nicole Tate. The eldest of his Mother’s four sons and for a while the only Grandchild of his Grandmother, Sandra Dorsey, he traveled with them for many of their errands and daily routines which included getting their hair done. Thus begins the journey of Tai “The Universal Stylist”.
Tyree’s interest in hair began at the age of nine. He would accompany his Grandmother to Bob’s Hair Salon in Philadelphia, where they would both receive hair services and where his love for styling originated.
Tyree was a quick study and watched intently as Bob styled his Grandmother’s and other clients’ hair. Tyree convinced his Mother, Grandmother, and Aunts Ovella Roberts and Aisha Daniels to experiment with their hair. Those experiments eventually resulted in viable, creative, and/or original styles that not only continued to keep his family returning, but also piqued the interest of others in his natural raw talent and ability.
By the age of twelve, Tyree had a steady yet increasing clientele of family and friends. It was amazing to others how this young man could make hair move the way that he wanted it to. He had a very good range of styles in his hair closet: up-do’s, press & curls, and wet sets were just some of the services he would provide. However, it was Tyree’s eye for creativity which stood him apart.
Upon graduating from Camden County Technical School in 2003, Tyree eagerly enrolled in Rizzieri Schools for Beauty and Wellness from which he earned his cosmetology license. He has been involved in cosmetology for over fifteen years, barbering for five years, and make up artistry for five years. He is one of the most sought after stylists in the United States. His clientele includes his Pastor, Apostle Saundra L. Hagans and star personalities like Kelly Price, Donna Richardson-Joyner, Twinkie Clark, Lexi, Dr. Traci Lynn Burton, Philadelphia news anchor Angela Russell, members of Sony Gospel‘s Tye Tribbett & GA and many more.
An award winning stylist, Tyree’s accolades include:
2004 First place Hair Oscars, 2004 & 2005 IHS Best Hair Presentation Award, 2005 & 2008 Second place Hair Oscars, 2010 Male Hairstylist of the Year - Golden Scissors Award
Tyree was also a featured stylist on the hit BETJ reality TV show “Tears, Shears, and Beauty”. He is the founder and CEO of Universal Stylist Inc., Tai Couture Salon, and the current President of the Hair Oscars Association.
Tyree is looking forward to many years involvement in the cosmetology field. He is paving the way for his legacy, which is to edify and uplift people through hair, fashion, beauty, and philanthropy. His goal is to help people to realize their true potential with love, care, kindness and hospitality.
